Perlite is not a trade name but a generic term for naturally occurring siliceous rock. The distinguishing feature which sets Perlite apart from other volcanic glasses is that when heated to a suitable point in its softening range, it expands from four to twenty times its original volume.
Character: Non-toxic, flavorless, lightweight, corrosion resisting, netural PH 6.5-7.5 etc.
Size: 100mesh, 200mesh, 0.15-1.18mm, 1-3mm, 2-4mm, 3-6mm, 4-8mm etc.
Application:
The uses of perlite can be divided to four major categories. Agricultural applications, Horticultural application, construction applications, industrial applications.
Due to expanded perlite with the high thermal and sound insulation characteristics and its low bulk dnesity,The major market for expanded perlite is the construction market.Expanded Perlite does not deteriorate through time or climate changes and also is practically inflammable. The applications of expanded perlite in the construction market are
• lightweight concrete
• As a loose filling insulation
• Fireproof, refractory materials
Other uses:
1) Agricultural: Growing Media, Hydroponics, Seed germination etc
2) Horticultural: As soil conditioner/Amendments, Garden nursery plants, Fertilizers etc
